3 HR Trends for 2017

HR trends, 3 HR Trends for 2017As the business world continues to change and develop over time, so too does the human resources industry. In the past two years, millennials have become both the largest living generation, and also, the largest generation in the labor force. Both of these developments are tremendously significant for human resources.

Millennials were raised on the internet and technology, and the way they operate is different from all the generations that have come before them. As a result, there are a number of HR trends that are taking shape and will likely continue to be strong in 2017 and beyond.

Here are three of the top HR trends for 2017.

1. Blended Workforce

It is predicted that at least 40 percent of the workforce will be freelancers in the next few years. Companies are using the services of freelancers more and more because freelancers are extremely convenient, they are easy to find, they don’t require benefits such as healthcare, and they can have tax advantages.

Freelancing can also be convenient for actual freelancers because oftentimes, they can work from anywhere, they have the freedom to work for multiple companies, and they are free to follow the best opportunities. So, because of the many benefits of freelancing, a blended workforce between freelancers and regular employees is likely to be one of the strongest trends in HR in 2017. It will be up to HR professionals to keep figuring out the best ways to hire and manage a blended workforce.

2. Social Media

Social media is becoming increasingly important for hiring. Because of this, it is one of the fastest growing trends in HR. The reason why social media is gaining steam as an HR trend is because the ever-increasing amount of social media sites is allowing hiring managers to get more and more information about a potential hire before they even call the person for an interview.

For example, a person’s LinkedIn, Google+, and Twitter accounts can all reveal plenty of information about the person. This is why it can be very helpful for people to augment their social media accounts with information that is helpful for looking professional.

3. Employee Experience

Employee experience is a trend in HR that appears to be gaining steam. Employee experience goes beyond just focusing on offering perks or other surface level benefits to work for a company, and instead focuses on what it is like for the employee to work at the company.

So, this can involve focusing on everything from how employees perceive their paths to hire earning potential, to how easy it is for them to work on multiple different devices, to whether or not the company’s culture has values that reflect the employee’s own values. Many millennials do not just want to work at a company that provides them with a job. They want to work at a company they feel at home with.

This trend has the potential to dominate the HR world in the coming years. Companies who can take advantage of it and who can cater to the needs of millennials the best can stand to gain incredibly from this trend.
